Paris, August 4 – Scottie Scheffler delivered a masterful performance to win the Olympic gold medal in men’s golf at the 2024 Paris Games. The 28-year-old American shot a sensational final round of 62 at Le Golf National, finishing with a total of 19-under 265, setting an Olympic record for 72 holes.
Scheffler’s victory capped off an extraordinary 2024 season, which already included his second Masters title and five other PGA Tour wins. In his Olympic debut, Scheffler overcame a four-shot deficit on Sunday, birdying nine holes, including a critical stretch on the back nine that propelled him into the lead. Scottie Scheffler
Tommy Fleetwood of Great Britain claimed the silver medal with an 18-under finish. Fleetwood, who had been leading late in the tournament, fell behind after a bogey on the 17th hole. Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama secured the bronze with a score of 17-under, narrowly missing the silver medal by one stroke.

Scheffler, who hails from Dallas, Texas, expressed his immense pride during the medal ceremony. “I’m just going to enjoy this moment. Like I said, I take tremendous pride in representing my country and I’m very proud to be going home, to be going back to the USA with a medal,” he said, visibly emotional as the American national anthem played. The tournament was marked by high drama and exceptional play. Jon Rahm of Spain, who led by four shots at one point, suffered a dramatic collapse, allowing Fleetwood and others to catch up. Fleetwood’s chance for gold slipped away with his errant tee shot into the rough on the 17th hole, while Scheffler’s clutch birdie putt on the same hole secured his victory. Scottie Scheffler
Rory McIlroy of Ireland had a promising run with five straight birdies on the back nine, but a double bogey on the 15th hole dashed his hopes, leaving him tied for fifth with Rahm.
Scheffler’s triumph marks the second consecutive Olympic gold in men’s golf for the United States, following Xander Schauffele’s win at the 2020 Tokyo Games. Schauffele, who finished tied for ninth in Paris, praised Scheffler’s incredible season. “He’s been piling up trophies left and right… When I take my competitive hat off and put my USA patriot hat on, I’m very happy that we won another gold medal.”Scottie Scheffler
With this victory, Scheffler cements his status as the world’s top-ranked golfer and strengthens his case for player of the year honors. His Olympic success adds another prestigious accolade to an already stellar career.
