Google’s annual ‘Made by Google’ hardware event has introduced an array of new devices and features, all underlined by a theme of choice The tech giant unveiled four new smartphones—the Pixel 9 Pixel 9 Pro,Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold—alongside the Pixel Watch 3and Pixel Buds Pro 2. This marks the first time Google is offering different size options for its pro-level Pixel phones and its smartwatch.
The lineup has expanded, offering more flexibility in size and features. The entry-level model, with a 6.3-inch OLED display and a starting price of $799. The Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL offer 6.3-inch and 6.8-inch displays, respectively, with prices starting at $999 and $1,099.
Notably, Google has redesigned the phones, replacing the iconic camera bar with an elongated pill-shaped design on the back. The phones are wrapped in shatter-resistant Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and built with a 100% recycled aluminum frame, making them twice as durable as the Pixel 8.
The camera system is a significant differentiator in the Pixel 9 series. All models feature a 50-megapixel primary camera and a 48-megapixel ultrawide camera, now with Macro Focus for close-up shots. The Pro models stand out with a 48-megapixel telephoto camera, offering up to 10X “optical-like” zoom and advanced autofocus.
The selfie camera on the Pro models is also upgraded, boasting a 42-megapixel sensor with autofocus and a 103-degree field of view, making it easier to capture group selfies. The standard features a 10.5-megapixel selfie camera, which now also includes autofocus.

It features a 6.3-inch external display and an 8-inch internal display, designed to be one of the thinnest folding phones available at 10.5 mm thick. The camera system, while still impressive, does not quite match the Pixel 9 Pro, with a 48-megapixel main camera and lower resolution ultrawide and telephoto lenses.
Google has also introduced the Pixel Watch 3, now available in two sizes, and the Pixel Buds Pro 2. These devices aim to offer more choice for users looking for wearables that integrate seamlessly with the Pixel ecosystem.
Beyond hardware, Google has introduced several new software features powered by its Gemini large language models. These include a dedicated Pixel Weather app, the Pixel Screenshots app, and Pixel Studio for generative AI image creation. Notably, Pixel phones are also debuting Satellite SOSfor emergency communications and a new Call Notes feature that logs important details from phone calls.
Preorders for the series are live now, with official sales starting on August 22. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold will be available starting September 4, with a price tag of $1,799, including a $300 store credit and a free year of Google One AI Premium Plan.
