Governor : In a significant late-night announcement, President Droupadi Murmu appointed nine governors and one lieutenant governor on Saturday. Among the notable appointees are BJP veterans Santosh Gangawar, OP Mathur, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s close confidant K Kailashnathan.
Kailashnathan, a former chief principal secretary to the Gujarat Chief Minister, will take over as the Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry.
The official statement from Rashtrapati Bhavan on Sunday confirmed the President’s acceptance of Banwarilal Purohit’s resignation as Governor of Punjab and Administrator of the Union Territory of Chandigarh.
Former Union Minister and eight-time Member of Parliament Santosh Kumar Gangwar, who was denied a ticket to contest the 2024 Lok Sabha polls from Bareilly, has been appointed as the Governor of Jharkhand.

CP Radhakrishnan, currently the Governor of Jharkhand with additional charge of Telangana, has been shifted to take over the constitutional post in Maharashtra.
BJP national Vice President and former RSS pracharak OP Mathur will take over as the Governor of Sikkim, replacing Lakshman Acharya, who will now serve as the Governor of Assam with additional charge of Manipur.
Gulab Chand Kataria, the current Governor of Assam, has been moved to take over as Governor of Punjab, with additional responsibility as Administrator of the Union Territory of Chandigarh.
Former Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Haribhau Kisanrao Bagde will assume the role of Governor of Rajasthan.
Ramen Deka, a former Lok Sabha MP from Assam, has been appointed as the Governor of Chhattisgarh.
Jishnu Dev Varma, BJP’s former Deputy Chief Minister of Tripura, has been appointed as Governor of Congress-ruled Telangana.
These appointments will take effect from the dates the appointees assume charge of their respective offices, according to Rashtrapati Bhavan.
