Sable started strong, taking an early lead and maintaining it for the first two and a half minutes of the race. However, he was overtaken by Kenya’s Abraham Kibiwot and Ethiopia’s Samuel Firewu as the race progressed. At the halfway mark, Japan’s Ryuji Miura moved ahead, pushing Sable to fourth place. After six minutes, Sable regained the second position but slipped back to fifth shortly after. In the final stages of the race, with a comfortable gap from the trailing athletes, Sable slowed his pace slightly, securing his place in the Olympic final for the first time in his career.
