The National Film Awards, first established in 1954, have a rich history of honoring excellence in Indian cinema. Initially known as the State Awards, they began by recognizing the best films in different regional languages. The awards for actors and technicians were first introduced in 1967, with legendary actress Nargis winning the inaugural Best Actress award for her performance in Raat Aur Din. Over the decades, the awards have evolved into a prestigious celebration of the diverse and dynamic Indian film industry.
This year’s winners will be honored in a ceremony scheduled for October 2024, where they will receive their awards from President Droupadi Murmu. The 70th National Film Awards have once again highlighted the incredible talent and creativity within Indian cinema, showcasing films and performances that have captivated audiences across the country.
