Sunday, July 28 : India’s ace women’s badminton player PV Sindhu began her Paris Olympics campaign in emphatic fashion, securing a straight-sets victory over Maldives’ Fathimath Nabaaha on Sunday, July 28. Sindhu, seeded 10th, dominated her opponent, winning the match 21-9, 21-6 in less than 30 minutes.
Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medallist, showcased her superior form from the very first point. Her strategy of pushing Nabaaha into the backcourt and attacking with powerful smashes proved highly effective. Nabaaha, ranked just outside the top 100 in women’s singles, struggled particularly with net exchanges, often hitting the net when attempting to lift the shuttle from the first court.Olympics

The 15 points Sindhu conceded were mainly due to her experimenting with different shots from the back of the court. Despite this, she expressed satisfaction with her performance, considering the match a valuable practice session.

In her post-match interview, Sindhu shared her confidence and familiarity with Nabaaha’s playing style. “No, I think I was confident and I played with her before as well. So I know how she plays. And I was very confident, so I think it was like a practice match, I would say. But I think from the beginning itself, I didn’t want to take it easy. So yeah, I mean, I took the lead and then, you know, I just wanted to get used to the court for some time. And then I gave a few points away and, yeah, there were some rallies, but I think it was a comfortable win for me,” Sindhu told the broadcast in her court-side interview.
Sindhu’s dominant start to her Paris Olympics campaign is a promising sign as she aims for further success in the tournament.
